What is Azure Purview?

Azure Purview is a data governance and catalog tool that helps organizations manage and discover their data assets. With Purview, you can discover and catalog data across multiple data sources and cloud platforms, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Database, and on-premises databases.

Get started in 5 steps:

Set up Purview: To get started, you need to set up a Purview account. You can do this by going to the Azure portal, clicking on the Create a resource button, and selecting Azure Purview. Then, follow the prompts to create your account.
Connect data sources: After you've set up your account, the next step is to connect your data sources to Purview. You can do this by going to the Purview portal and selecting the Connections tab. From there, you can choose the data sources you want to connect, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Database, and on-premises databases.
Scan data sources: Once you've connected your data sources, the next step is to scan them to catalog and index the data. You can do this by going to the Purview portal and selecting the Scans tab. From there, you can start a scan and select the data sources you want to scan.
Deploy the data model: Once the data model is built, it can be deployed to Azure Analysis Services for others to access.
Explore and discover data: After your data sources have been scanned, you can start exploring and discovering the data. You can do this by going to the Purview portal and selecting the Assets tab. From there, you can search for specific data assets and view their metadata, including the data type, location, and owner.
